Wireless HT receiver/speakers rec's?

My "man room" has one spot open on the TV stand for some kind of HT equipment. Currently have a Samsung HD850 upconvert DVD player holding a place for HDDVD/Blu-Ray once that issue is settled and becomes affordable.

In the meantime, I'd really like to get a decent wireless HT receiver & speakers to compliment my 1080p goodness, but i don't wanna break the bank. Suggestions?

(I also have an x360 but I'm not crazy about buying the HDDVD add-on - it's too loud and hot and I get lockups).

Would it be possible to run speaker wire to the front three speakers?

Wireless for speakers will tend to not get you the best results and you'll still tend to have to plug in amps at the speaker locations.

Budget for all this?

It was my impression that "wireless" HT systems just lacked the wire connecting the back speakers to the receiver. You'd have wires running between them and a wireless connector to the receiver.

Am I wrong?

The ideal situation would be a wireless transmitter that could send signals to conventional speakers. Hmm, time to run to the lab.

Wireless just means you transmit the line level data to each of the active speakers. Translation, the speakers have to be powered individually. Please, wireless speakers are really just for woman. Manly man use wires :)

And there is no such thing as wireless receiver, unless you are talking about one of those HTIB jobs, which really mean wireless speakers anyway. There are units that are speaker-wire-less for all 5 (not sure about the sub) speakers, but again, form over function.

Review

after review

after review all claim otherwise that they dont suck. But as YoYo said you will need a outlet at each speakers location to plug in the speakers for power, no matter what wireless (if you go that route) you buy.
I still stick by my guns though that the Z5500 is the best sub $300 HT set up you will ever find and is in stock at AMAZON right now for $257+ shipping. I have 2 sets of these. One is a dedicated HT set up, I hid my wires under the carpet.

the wife has spoken. I shalt not hath speaker cable running across the floor or around a bazillion feet of baseboard to get to my back wall in the media room.

Power isnt the issue - plug behind the couch that I can run cables to.

BTW op the last review actually recommends the Z5450 as HT set up or replacement speakers to built in TV set ones. Just thought I would throw that out there since they were mentioning in the review on the front page what it is you were asking about :)

OMG the last comment is priceless for your situation in the last review:
I quote
Thanks to rear speakers that only require power and receive their signal wirelessly Logitech has produced a set of surround sound speakers that have a vastly increased chance of gaining the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor).

LMAO.

Nice. Thanks for the lead. I'm gonna take a look at these as she'll disown me if I try to pull up the carpet.

You dont need to pull up the carpet just need some really stiff wire and run that over to where you want your wires to come out at, cut open a small hole in the carpet to let the stiff wire out. Attach speaker wires to it with some tape and pull the stiff wire out pulling the speaker wire with it. Tada, no wires can be seen ;)

If you have a basement or crawl space even better. Drill a hole in the floor and run the wires into the basement. Drill another hole over where you want the wires at. Put the wires up through other hole. Tada, wires hidden in basement. Small hole I should say, small enough for just the wires and the carpet fibers will cover up if you remove them.

But them I guess I am one of the lucky ones, my wife throws a fit about it till she hears and sees it, and then she throws a fit that if I ever sell it she will kill me because she now likes too. And OH how I got wires all over the place ;). 6 computers (1 ht, one mine, one hers, 1 for each of my boys, and a spare one) and all those wires everywhere. It was bitch bitch bitch till the day I made hers, then it was little bitch bitch bitch. I ran a wire across the room to hook her up to the internet. now its silent.

Womens are soooo damn funny in things they bitch about. Once you hook something up and you pop in her favorite action move and she goe "Oh honey that sounds good", you counter with "Yeah it would of sounded 100x better if I had a wired rear surround and was able to get a more powerful unit" and the next thing out of her mouth should be if you still have the receipt.

whats the wife say about you crawling into the attic and fishing wire? i had my surround cable running thru the ceiling to mini port panels at the speaker side, and i had an access panel with each speaker ported, labeled and ready for hooking up to any system with patch cable. pretty cool. best part is, no wires on the baseboards or along the ceiling.

Media room is the bonus room over the garage. Hard to get to underneath and the roof is on top. Back wall of the house is the LCD TV wall. Couch wall has a walk in attic space behind it, under the front slope of the garage roof. I think wiring the rear satellites would be easy because of the naked wall access in the attic, but I'd still have to run wires under/across the floor, and I think wife would have a fit if I did the minimal damage to the carpet that funboy42 suggested.

In any case, I just ordered the Z5450's, because I can move the setup easy if I give that room over to the kids in a couple years. Wife "politlely" reminded me of that possibility just a littel while ago. I'll respond in a week or so about how this turned out, if anyone's interested. I'm curious how the sound quality will be.
