Mods, if this isn't the right forum to post, please move to the appropriate one. I couldn't find a Networking forum.

Guys, here's the problem. Help me!

The only ISP here in Dubai is Etisalat. I am interested in getting cable or dsl internet access from them but the service is a bit different here than COX service, which I am used to in Oklahoma.

Say you have cable access, the first time you connect to the service, you are prompted to enter a user name and password which then registers your MAC Address on the ISP's servers. So, therefore, if I change NIC's, I will be prompted to do the same above.

Now, I am interested in going wireless in my apartment. I have both Cable and ADSL as options to choose from. How do I go about doing this (i.e. connecting multiple computers wirelessly) considering the above?

In the UK, my friend had an ADSL connection which he shared wirelessly using an ADSL modem/router and I got access anytime I was within range - no username/password crap reqd.

What do I use? What do I do?

I'm guessing this is pretty simple but I thought I'd make sure before buying stuff that will be worthless.

Get a wireless router.

I do not have permission to access that forum. Whats up with that?

n0cmonkey, can you recommend some good wireless cable modem routers?

Also, a quick tip on how to set it all up.

Go into your profile, click on personal options, and unselect the networking forum. You've blocked it.

At the apartment my roommate has a linksys wireless router. I don't know the model #. As far as setup, use 128bit wep, restricted MAC addresses, use a strong password, and disable SSID broadcast.

Get yourself into the networking forum, and look around the threads there. This gets asked and answered all the time. It's usually answered by people that know more about it than I do. ;)
