Wireless G or N-draft it?

I haven't decided whether to get a wireless n-draft router or not. Do I really need it is my question? Mainly, I websurf and don't plan on doing file transfers between network computers. As I understand it the internet is 10 mbps. If wireless g practically runs at 25 mbps shouldn't that be enough for me to not notice any slow down relative to a wired network?

erwin1978, you basically answered your own question on the last line. the difference sould not matter if your comparing wireless g and wireless n sets of equipment and looking at only a slow internet speed for web surfing. if you own no wireless router no wireless card, i'd get G since its very cheap now in comparison to pre N, and pre N, well anything can happen to that, the stuff might not work with final N, though several router Co. say they will offer firmware updates to get it up to final N.

No, you won't.

One of the reasons to go draft-n is increased range.

The $57 Buffalo provides range as any of the mediocre EOL preN.

I.e. $57+ about $30 for an 802.11g card = about $87

pre-N set would be close to $200, and the the real 802.11n would come and you would have to spend another $200.

Correct me if Im wrong, but draft N does not give a lot of advantages over G, plus there is no garentee that it will work with the offical N routers. From what I have read, you should just stay way from all draft/pre N products and wait for the real N to come out.

I need a wireless router that will work with my Mac Book Pro which has a built-in draft-n wireless adapter. Right now I'm considering the Linksys WRT150N($100) and WRT54GX4($60). The former is draft-n and the latter having mimo.

If I don't benefit from the extra speed at least I can fall back on the wireless g. From the reviews I've read draft-n is roughly ~100 mbps, far from the 300 mbps stated in the specs.

Again if you are not file sharing with in your network its not going to matter speed wise since your internet connection is only 10mbit. If range is a concern then the pre-N router would be good because they say they have increaed range if not then the G is more than good enough and will be much cheaper.

DO NOT BUY PRE-N PRODUCTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buy Draft-N, they will all work with the final specs and with each other.

10mbps was a general figure, MOST people are at or below that mark...
