wireless for desktop help

hey all, im having trouble keeping a steady connection going on a wireless lan at home.

I have a dell PC hooked up with a LINKSYS WMP54G adapter
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124115

and the router im using is WRT54G linksys router
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124010

the dell is about 30-40 feet in a straight line from the router, with 2 maybe 3 walls in between them. I have a toshiba m45 laptop that is able to recieve a steady connection with the router in the same area as the desktop, but the desktop seems to keep losing connection and regaining it every couple minutes. i checked all encryption and wep settings.

i tried buying signal boosters for the router, but that did not really help on keeping the connection steady.

any other suggestions/tips on keeping a steady connection? thanks for any help

You could put a bigger antenna on the wireless card, it has a standard N-connector so most of the aftermarket ones should fit.

Get a program to measure the signal stregth accurately and see if anything helps.
