Haven't used that one yet. Is it any good? It's probably the Intel invention, unless somebody else decided to compete.

How in gods green earth would a wireless monitor work?

Is there any point, unless its without a power cable? and if it is, how heavy will the huuuuuuge ass battery the screen comes with be? will it be more mobile than a screen with cable?

Then there is the matter of interferance, from others useing same thing, ei neighbors.
Most people with a wireless mouse have probably seen their mouse sometimes move on its own, because neighbors ect have one like it.

Imagine what a issue like that on a monitor would be like?


Lets say your neighbor has a wireless monitor as well... he tunes it into your "frequency", and suddenly he can spy on whatever your doing on your pc.

Sounds good Im sure theres a huuuuuuge market for a wireless monitor/display.... however I wont be buying one.

i think its going to take a lot of development..

if your implying for movies.. yes i think they work now, and ive seen a couple of them do a good job.

If your implying for general pc stuff, possibly..

if your talking about enthusiast level gaming... we havent reached the point yet where we can send that much info wirelessly within the required delay time to make it useable.

Yes, there is a point, an obvious example are conference/meeting rooms with projectors - you just come and connect your laptop from anywhere. Or generally connecting your laptop to TVs etc without needing to carry cables with you.

On the transmitter side, Intel already has that, others will probably follow soon. For now it's using RTSP to send video and perhaps regular 2D work compressed, it's not meant for gaming and such.

As for intereference/spying, same as wireless internet: the connection can be secured.

Plenty of uses for this technology, they are that obvious i don't feel the need to spell them out in detail.

We aren't talking about a $5 remote control car with a fixed wireless frequency here.

Actually a valid point, the signal would need to be encrypted but so many people have wireless routers these days and they have exactly the same potential problem and are still selling millions of units a year.

I got ninjad. Yea, wireless displays exist.

Of course it is a worthless gimmic that will never succeed. But it does exist if you reallly really want it.

And it does have issues.

...and now we get to the sensible bit. You don't need one so it is impossible that anyone else could.

Want is a better word for it then need.
What you need is food, shelter, water... the occasional medical assistance.
You might need a vehicle or a comptuer to perform your job.
Most things nobody needs, but many people want because they are useful.

H.264 is lossless enough to make any TN user's complaint about image quality null. It can be sent/decoded at that bitrate faster than the input delay added by a second video card in SLI/Crossfire or sticking with a 60Hz monitor.

Yea it works and it's pretty good, range isn't the best but in the same room is fine and latency also increases a bit. This is with Intel WiDi by the way, which a number of TVs implement by default and Intel offers wifi/bluetooth/widi all in one laptop network cards for this feature. I plan on getting one for for girlfriend's laptop so she doesn't have to plug anything just enable widi and be good to go to play movies from her laptop on her tv.
