Building my new PC, and for the first time, I need a wireless card. If it matters, I have a Verizon fIOS ActionTec router. I'm trying to find the fastest wireless card possible. I will be gaming, download, uploading LAN/WAN and using the PC for streaming video to my TV. I've always been a linksys fan on their routers, but dunno about their wireless cards. I thought I remembered reading an article about a D-Link...premium or something maybe it was called...had a dual band but triple antennas. The price was about $60 at a local store though.

Thanks again everyone!

Copper Is King as far as speed goes, don't get your hopes up too much for a speedy wireless option.

How many simultaneous tasks do you plan on performing?

I installed a Edimax wireless card (N with MIMO) on a pc and it works.
Costs less than Linksys.
I avoid D-link (personal experience with a router, sucked bad)

Yeah, I've always gone LinkSys myself, but since cisco took over they haven't been as good...go figure. I too had a few bad experiences with D-Link routers...hence why I've gone straight to Linksys.

I wish there was an easy way to do a long cable run from my ONT box to where the PC is going to be. The cold and rain isn't even making it easy for me to go outside and measure to see how long of a run I'd even need.

I've used powerline networking adapters before with good results.
They don't offer CAT5/6 speeds, but they are really versatile.
You can get some pretty good deals at Newegg refurbed.

Good choice, muskie. :) I've heard that one is really, really, good. Thinking about ordering it, myself.

It is very tempting, especially cause of the price. However, it's USB even worse for wireless capabilities?

This Wireless card seems rather interesting.

That would be my recommendation too.

I don't think it is inherently bad. You probably use USB for your KB/mouse, right? The problem with most USB adapters is that they are made too small and thus have three problems:
1) They overheat and die.
2) Since the antenna is internal, they don't pull in a strong signal.
3) Since they are attached to the PC, their placement is bad for signal strength.

This Rosewill adapter fixes two of the three problems by having it on a cable that acts as a stand, and using a big and high gain antenna. The attached antenna might act as a heatsink too, so maybe 3 for 3.

Note that if you browse all wireless adapters, the average rating is 3/5 eggs, while this one averages 5/5 with a lot of reviews. (standard disclaimers apply to Newegg "reviews")

Hey! I didn't get a chance to jump on this because I went in the hospital for surgery. I'm out now and Newegg looks like they may no longer be selling the product. I did some google searches for it, but couldn't find anywhere else. Does anyone know another place I could purchase this from?

Thanks!

I think this is pretty much the same thing... Just not USB.

Hmmm...nice find! the photos of the product show the usb one haha! Have you seen that one for sale anywhere though? Search on model # brings up the same one...

OH WAIT! Looks like Newegg has it back in stock...just not with the 7 port hub for free now....

Which one ya think is better the PCI or the USB one?

FWIW, I prefer USB adapters. They can be positioned for optimal reception. PCI adapters are more elegant, but not as useful imo.

I NEED a usb hub so the Rosewill might be worth it right now, unless I can find a usb hub for a better price of the difference...

Both of those look like excellent choices...
