Wireless Bridge to Access WiFi

Can I use a wireless bridge such as a Linksys to gain access to a Wifi that is just out of range of my laptop. I have built a house in the mountains where the town has WiFi available and it is just out of reach of my laptop. I was told a bridge would reach out and grab the signal for me and bring it to my house. Is this true, if so, any recommendations for a brand or a website that explains to me how this works?

Bridge per se is not more sensitive than a regular Wireless Card. I.e. if you are out of range and a regular card does not get the signal the Bridge would not get it either.

However if you get an Access Point that can act as a client and can be fitted with an external directional Antenna. You can try to install it on a high spot that has a clear view of the wireless source, and might be that you would get a signal.

D-Link has an outdoor wireless Bridge/Access Point that picks up the signal of the original AP and retransmits it effectively increasing the footprint of the WLAN. If you could get with a neighbor down the mountain maybe you could light up the whole side of the mountain.
