Wireless and mouse combo - strong enough to go through walls

Hey all

I'm going to be buying a 52" LCD TV shortly and will hang it up top my fireplace.

I currently use my smaller LCD as my computer monitor and the new big size screen is also going to be my monitor (one of the reasons I'm getting LCD vs plasma). My computer is next to my table stand since the TV is not up on the wall but I'd rather have it out of sight in my office just behind the fireplace once the TV's on the wall.

The DVI/HDMI cabling is not going to be an issue as it's going to be going to go through the wall but I'd need to acquire a new wireless keyboard + mouse combo as the current one just won't do as its already spotty enough in direct line of sight reception (old logitech wireless keyboard and cheap logitech wireless laser mouse).

There's just a single drywall division with a glass indoor door right by it that the signal will have to go through and my couch is 15 feet away. It is a sectional however so the signal should be multidirectional.

I've seen people suggest bluetooth for that kind of usage but doesn,t bluetooth REALLY drains batteries ? A power drain or low battery warning would also be awesome but not necessary if its too expensive.

Also, I don't game often but it happens so mouse reaction time should be good but apart from that, a standard keyboard + mouse would be more than sufficient as long as the letters won't fade in a year (my old keyboard has been in use for 10+ years and all letters are still perfect ... and it saw ALOT of use back in the days).

Any models/type of combos to suggest ?

Thanks.

Blue tooth is your best option since any others require line of sight or only have a 3 foot range. But there is no garentee it will reach threw the wall. If someone has had exspreience with a set that worked threw a wall then great. But if there is a good bit of wireing in the wall that could block it. You really won't know what will work unless you try it. Since you plan on running a hole in the wall for the cable i suggest you also un the receiver threw the wall too. You may need a USB extention cable for the receiver but it would be good to have it in the same room.

Thanks for the feedback.

I had thought about getting the extension through the wall already but I'd rather avoid having usb receivers protuding through the wall right next to my fireplace for aesthetic reasons. If that's the only route I can take, I'd probably run them at ground level as I feel that would have less of a visual impact but that's really a last ditch solution.

The wall also isn't that long and the computer will be maybe 2 feet away from the start of the door so this sounds worse than it is but better safe than sorry. My fireplace is at a 45 degree angle in the corner and my office is right on the other side. The wall looks somewhat like the middle part of a W with a glass door right by the middle branch of the W. The computer would be right on the other side of that W and the signal would probably propagate through the door rather than through the wall as that would probably be the path of least resistance. The one issue I might have though is that my wi-fi router is right in that corner so interference could be a possibility depending on the types of devices used.

Has anyone had any succesful experiences with any kind of wireless devices for that type of scenario ?

There's a good chance we'll do the wiring on Sathurday so if there's anything extra as far as usb wiring needed, it'd probably be best to do it at that time.

Consider a wireless extender. I have one of these and can get my wi-fi in several rooms through walls.

But, for a mouse or keyboard, Bluetooth is most likrly your best snd most cost effective bet/

My bluetooth MX5000 will go through a wall. I haven't tested the farthest it will go but one wall and 15' is good to go.
