Can I use a wireless access point such as this one
to allow a PS3 to connect to the internet if I use internet connection sharing under Windows XP?

Any access point that supports the security you want (don't know much about the ps3) will do.

You can pick up a cheap router and use that and get rid of ICS as well. Of if you want use the cheap router as an access point.

actually it's for my buddy. He wants to enable the wireless on his PS3, and I happen to have the WAP laying around. The chart on Amazon makes it appear that you couldn't use the access point and a computer at the same time for internet access. He doesn't have a home network, just a cable modem and his desktop and laptop.

You need a second card in the computer that is connected to the Modem.

Connect the AP to the second card (it might need crossover cable) configure the core IP of the AP to Windows ICS IP range ( 192.168.0.x).

Configure ICS and the Wireless computer, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126

================

P.S

These type of configuration (ICS) sometimes work well some time it is iffy, it is never as good as the classical Wireless Router configuration.

Like this, http://www.ezlan.net/network/router.jpg

There is No need for a second card so he might save a dollar or two.

You can Keep the expensive AP for a rainy day and tell (or get) your friend that he can solve is problem with $4.99 after rebate.

Mikey, what your friend needs to do to make life much easier is just get a cheap wireless router.

When it comes to home networking the normal inclination is to make it so freaking complicated, just because they can. It's like "how do i get to the top of everest? By helicopter for 50 bucks or 20 hours spent on forums to reinvent the helicopter and puchasing all the helicopter parts?"

Do it right. Keep it simple stupid. KISS.

Not if you spend 4000 hours researching on the intarweb to figure out how to purchase a 10000 pound hammer to fit a square peg into a round hole.
