Which wire is positive the one with numbers on it or the one with split white line on it on Actiontec power adapter 12VDC 1.8A
 
In most cases the wire with the white stripe or the dashed lines = "positive" (+), while the other, unmarked wire = "negative" (-).

You could also get a cheap DMM and read the voltage to determine polarity.
