Wired/Wireless Networking

Here's my current setup:
1 cable internet connection
2 desktops sharing a wired connection via a SMC barricade

this is what I want to accomplish:
1 cable internet connection
2 desktops (running XP) sharing a wired connection via a SMC barricade
1 laptop (running win2k) sharing a wireless connection to one of the above desktops

And I have 2 USR 802.11b PCMCIA + PCI adapters

I've been trying to figure out how I should hook all this up but there aren't any specific guides or info to setup a wired/wireless network with first having a WAP.

Eventually I am planning to upgrade since I have 2 laptops but for the time being I want to see how it works in my house.

Any help would be great, I'm sure there's some gurus on here.

I have a very similar setup in my house.

Cable internet connection
3 desktops (win 2k adv. server, win xp, and win 2k pro)
1 laptop (win xp)
1 PDA (iPaq-pocket pc)

the win 2k server box has 3 network interfaces, one is the cable, another is a connection to a 10/100 switch, and the 3rd is a wireless nic.

on the server I run winroute (which will route the traffic to more than 2 interfaces)

the wireless network cards use a p2p connection (it's called adhoc)

enjoy!

^^ that is one option ^^

You could also probably just keep your current setup, but add a wireless card to one of the computers hooked up to the barricade.

then, as said above, use ad hoc mode and run ICS on that server. that way you don't have to buy a switch.

But then I'd have to have a dedicated server right? I don't want to do that right now since my barricade is my router and adding a third computer would involve more cost. I'm really looking for a way to do this:

Main Desktop Laptop via ICS (802.11b)
[]--------------------[]
I
I
[] SMC Barricade-------[]Cable internet
I
I
[]
G/F Desktop in another room wired

I was hoping that the USR cards would have provided soe sort of config. utility but there isn't anything on the CD.

Main Desktop running XP (wired)(802.11b) Laptop via ICS running win2k (802.11b)

G/F Desktop in another room (wired)

Hopefully that will give a better idea of the current setup, unfortunately the 802.11b portion isn't working and when I try to do ICS on the 802.11 card it will kil my wired connection on the XP box. I also tried doing ICS via the wired card but the 802 card didn't respond on either machine.

O.K. apparently the card on my laptop is working correctly because the USR config. utility is showing that it's on (the light stays green.)

On my desktop on the otherhand the config. utility continues to blink red/green meaning there is no connection. Any help would be great.

hmm...first of all, are both set to "ad hoc" mode?

second, is there any WEP (encryption) enabled?

Both are set to 802.11 ad-hoc, and I've tried changing the wep form disabled to 64bit and back again. I feel the problem lies in the desktop running XP, there are apparently no drivers for XP and the "beta" drivers they are supposed to have I don't think are working. I've contacted their tech support and if it doesn't work out, I''m going to return the card that isn't working and get in on the belkin wifi router at OM.
