What would be your suggestion as to a wired router for my home that can handle 21 megs with no problem. I do not want a wifi router with the wifi disabled. Only a wired router please. Would be nice if it has a great firewall.

Currently I am running everthing through my business laptop but that will change when I purchase a new PC later in the year.

 
As a Router there is No real difference between entry level wire only Routers, their technology did not change in the last 5 years, and the selection available is very limited.

There is a much better selection in Wireless Routers.

In any case, look for a Wire Router that is rated 100Mb/sec. at the WAN Port.

do they even develop them anymore? i figure the newest hardware is wireless chipset based, and doesn't cost much more. i figure many of the wired routers are simply very old products since the cheapest wifi routers are so cheap its not really worth developing separate wired stuff much right? but yea go to smallnetbuilder and look at the bandwidth tests. if it costs about the same theres no reason not to just get the wifi router and disable the wifi. you want the latest stuff with the fastest processor for qos and all that good stuff.

If the router can be hacked even when the wireless is disabled, then that's no different from a wired router being hacked. Maybe you're thinking of people who get a wireless router, plug it in, and thinks that they're safe just because they're only using it wired. The problem is when routers come with wireless enabled by default, and without any security. It's a simple matter to disable wireless, and if you get a wireless router which doesn't let you turn off the wireless, return it and get another one -- it's not a good router.

But the DGL-4100's still fine, and faster than most wireless routers.
 
yea i doubt theres a wide spread disabled radios hack. that would be nuts. and pointless. if you can hack a router through its wired port already theres no point turning on the wifi, its yours already😛 you might as well be worried someones going to remote turn on your pc when ur away and hax0r it!
 
I use a wireless router - Netgear, but all three computers and network printer are hard wired. The wireless does not get used, and it uses the highest level of secure access available. I would only use the wireless capability for a houseguest who happened to have a laptop with Wi-Fi. As an added security measure, I remove the wireless antenna. Only my laptop has a wi-fi capability, and it is only turned on when I ready it for travel or updates. Neither desktop has a wi-fi capability. The nearest street access to that router is about 50 yards. I cannot detect it sans antenna at that range.

If you are really concerned about a non issue (hacked wireless while the feature is turned off) Get one with removable antennas and take them off.

That is true it was on one time hacked when it was off, and it was done By Mr. Spock with the Help of X-Man. 😉

In matter of fact it is Not as yet hackable if if it is On with WPA2 encryption.:light:
