Wired LAN slower than wireless

Hi,

I have a strange problem with my router, a TP-Link TL 740N. I am on comcast and I get 3 Mbps download wireless but only 1 Mbps on the wired connection to the desktop.

I've updated the firmware on the router and isolated the issue to it. I've checked the connection against other cables (with the one running to the router) and another laptop too. The problem is with the router.

Before I try to contact warranty I was wondering if there was any setting on the router/OS could be causing this to happen? I did check with XP, 7 and Ubuntu as far as OS'es go too.

Any help is appreciated.

Make sure router ports and your NIC are set to autonegotiate speed/duplex. What you're describing sounds like a duplex mismatch where one side is forced 100/full and the other side is auto. the auto side will come up 100/half.

Spidey, I tried it with 7 going through Lan properties but still did not work. Still trying to figure out how I can do it on Ubuntu. Trying XP next to see if that works.

There may be the risk of outsiders accessing your network unless robust security protocols are enabled (eg WPA, WPA2), the wireless connection may be slower than a wired network.

In Ubuntu you should be able to run 'sudo /sbin/ethtool eth0' to see the status of that interface.

Disabling ipv6 and flow control did not help either. I am close to giving up and calling TPlink for a replacement.
