im confused by the OP...

is he saying he had a set of headphones that he plugged into a remote, and he is complaining that sound wasn't outputted through the headphones?

I wondered the same thing, but upon reading more I realized it was really about creating a Xbox sucks thread so everyone can flame away. Not really sure why the thread is still open, but then I’m not really sure why people still bitch about the whole Netflix/live thing. If you don’t think Live is worth paying money for don’t buy it. I personally have no idea how much of Live’s infrastructure Netflix uses, and I don’t really care that much. It could use enough to warrant MS charging for it, or it could just be MS attempting to create more reasons to buy a Live subscription. No one is forcing anyone to buy it, if you don’t like it don’t buy it.

This thread is fail but you still don't get it. I have live, but if I want to run my 2nd xbox in the other room at the same time as I'm online playing, I have to pay for a 2nd live account just to use netflix.
I don't mind paying for live, but I do mind paying twice.

You're unique in that thought though, Buc - most people with multiple xbox's in their household will either only be playing one at a time, or they will have multiple people playing via multiple gamertags. If this is such an issue for your wife watching NetFlix, you could easily rectify the situation with a Roku or similar device.

Why have two differnent Xbox's with only one account? The day I bought my second one, I made an account so that my wife can play on it. So now she has her xbox and I have mine.

The whole I have to buy live to use Netflix thing is stupid. If you dont want to pay for live then buy something else for it. I run netflix on 2 xbox 360, Bluray, both phones, desktop, laptop, and my TV. The people that fail are the people who only have the one option for the service and than cry about about MS having you pay 35-60(depending on where you get your deal) to use XBL.

I have 2 accounts, mine is gold and hers is silver. Can't watch netflix with her Silver account.

Why should I buy a whole other box to put under my TV when I already have an xbox?
I"m not paying 35/year just to watch netflix, on top of the netflix fees I'm paying as well. That 2nd gamertag won't be used for anything else.
Whatever, I love my xbox. But anyone arguing having to have gold to use netflix is OK is crazy.
I really don't want to argue about it because my mind is made up on it and I don't really care what anyone says. Just commenting on it 🙂

What I was trying to get across, is that the people complaining about needing gold is stupid. Like I listed, there is a lot of other "free" ways to use it. If you only have an xbox that streams it and the 35-60 a year for gold is too much than go spend 100.00 on a bluray player that has it. Having gold for 5 years now, when Netflix started being able to be used on XBL I thought it was cool. I never thought in a way that I was having to pay for my gold just to use netflix since I have always had it. If people dont like it cry somemore and spend more money to get a machine that will run it.

Man, my headsets work great. Such amazing sound and I didn't have to purchase an extra adapter or anything. I'm so glad I didn't buy a shitty PS3. And only dumb people buy Xbox Live for $50/year. There are always deals for one year cards, usually around $35/year, sometimes less.

Only dumb people pay $35/year for Xbox Live. Smart people pay nothing to play online on PS3.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. This is NOT a troll thread. It is not an inflammatory thread. I am genuinely pissed that LIVE is required for netflix and I need help figuring out what is wrong with sound output.

Why are people always so quick to scream TROLL?! Say that I didn't do my homework in advance, call me dumb... but don't say I am a troll!

And no, Xbox doesn't suck. It's great, but Microsoft's policies suck. Now, I seen some greedy companies.... But this thing with netflix.. I thinik they overshot even Apple there...

this thread has no point other than to cause another BS 360 vs. ps3 thread

Disgusting... How people will report others for anything these days. You could have actually done something productive in that time it took you to report me. Like click the "back" button on your browser.

If you are taking something like my thread so personally as to be enraged and upset enough to consider this a violation, I gotta say that's pretty sad.

Jesus, gorcorps is right - this thread needs to be shut down.

If you want to be serious about the headset thing, well, you quite frankly don't understand how it works - the jack on the controller is voice chat only. Wired headphones do work - from the audio source on the BACK of the machine.

As for the Netflix requiring a Gold subscription - yup, and it says it on everything I've seen advertise Netflix. They all have that asterisk to declare it requires XBL Gold.

No... He is wrong. Why does my thread need to be shut down? This is a forum? Where we... Discuss things? Not my fault some people cant discuss things in a civil manner.

What audio source on the back?

Just because a policy is stated doesn't make it any less ridiculous.

Let's understand something. The only "feature" you're paying for on XBL when you get Gold is the ability to play multiplayer. Anything on top of that is considered a bonus - period. All online features outside of demos (and even then, some are restricted) are locked to Gold accounts. This includes Kinect chat, ESPN3, Zune and all those other bonuses. You don't purchase an Xbox to solely play Netflix, you purchase it to play games - if you choose to utilize it for other functions, then you must understand those limits. There are a lot of policies like this in place - understanding your limitations and adjusting your expectations accordingly makes a world of difference. Like I said, it is clear as day that in order to utilize the Netflix portion of an Xbox, you're required to have a Gold subscription. I don't think it's ridiculous because I understand the purpose of my Gold account, and despite having Netflix access, I don't stream it - hell, I don't even use ESPN3, or any other feature. I use Gold for it's intended purpose - gaming.

Netfilx is FREE to use(once you subscribe) on every single device out there... TVs, phones, tablets, whatever... But Xbox is somehow special?

/end rant

That is one reason I let my Gold memberships expire. I didn't play online enough to justify the expense and there was no way I was going to pay to use Netflix when my PS3 does it for free and you can get a Roku for rooms that need Netflix but don't have a console.

Let's understand something. Requiring gold to stream Netflix is ridiculous. It doesn't matter if you personally don't use it. It doesn't matter if it isn't the "feature" of gold. If you own a xbox to play single player games and want to stream Netflix it is ridiculous to require gold.

Again just stating the policy doesn't make the policy good. You keep saying it is clear that it is required and I am not arguing but that doesn't make it good policy. Your entire argument seems to be that it is a stated limit therefore it can't be ridiculous.

Oh great, an idealism vs. realism debate.

For the record, I agree with you - requiring a Gold membership for Netflix streaming is ridiculous. As ridiculous as cable/satellite companies charging $7 or whatever extra per month if you want HD.

But I imagine dougp will continue driving home his point of "it is what it is" and "they don't owe you anything" and "Netflix is a perk; Gold is for multiplayer gaming and everything else is gravy." Won't matter how many people say "charging twice for Netflix is ridiculous."

Charging twice for Netflix IS ridiculous. It will always be ridiculous. There are a ton of people who don't play multiplayer games on their 360; a lot of people don't even play games at all anymore and solely use it for media streaming. But I suppose MS has decided to be ridiculous because people are willing to pay. The only other option if you want a Netflix box is to buy a separate device specifically for Netflix. That's what I did; not everyone wants to do that though. It does seem terribly wasteful when I have a perfectly capable Netflix box already. Which is why it's ridiculous.

Since when do they charge you twice to use it? Im sure that its only the one payment to Netflix that allows you to use it. Paying for gold is not charging twice for that service. Like dougp said, its a perk that comes with it.

You guys act as if you're forced to use Netflix on a 360, like they're holding a gun to your head.

You're not paying Netflix twice to watch their movies, and you're not paying MS twice to watch Netflix. You guys think that PSO and FFO should be free to play? Because you have to pay a monthly fee to play those games online. Hell, you have to pay TWICE if you play it on the PC AND on the 360. But we don't see you complain about this. The 360 is merely convenience when it comes to Netflix - if you see it as a primary option, then you're doing it wrong. You have plenty of other viable options, but if you choose to have a stick up your ass about the 360, that's your problem.

The funny thing is, I never disagreed with any of what y'all said - I do think it's stupid that you have to pay for Gold to use Netflix, but then again, if I didn't have XBL, I wouldn't own an Xbox. You can see it how it is, or you can see it how you want to see it. I choose to see it how it is because I understand it's the facts, plain and simple. You refuse to see it how it is because you either have a disdain for MS or XBL and/or you feel like you got duped like a chump.

Take it how you want it, but fact of the matter is if you can't read and comprehend terms and conditions, that's your own damn fault for not researching a purchase - not Netflix or MS.

Whoever pays for Gold who's sole purpose is to watch netflix is retarded. You pay for gold to play games with other people online, whether it be friends or strangers. If you are paying for gold to play netflix, then you are ridiculous. If you are buying a XBox 360 to watch netflix instead of playing games, you are ridiculous.

Stop being ridiculous and complaining. Being able to watch Netflix is an extra bonus for those of us who subscribe to gold because we play games online with others. It's a perk for us who play the 360, not meant as a standalone thing.

Haters will always find a reason to try to hate on Xbox.

Haters will always find a reason to try to hate on Xbox.

Placing Netflix behind an arbitrary pay wall when every other device that can do Netflix does it for free is bad.

It is a negative about the xbox. If you want to stream netflix through your xbox you either have to pay for gold or you can't. In the list of pros and cons about the xbox it is a con. A leftover vestige of a time when xbox was the only one to do it and now is the only one that requires a paid subscription to do it.

I don't get this haters stuff. Posting a negative about a console makes one a hater? I guess I didn't realize that once one joins the religion of your chosen console that any negatives towards that console must come from 'haters'.

creating a thread about a feature that is CLEARLY marked that you do not agree with or like is indeed hating. that is the definition of hating - going out of your way to let everyone know you hate it.

the whole reason this thread was created was because the dumb ass OP purchased something and had no clue wtf he was purchasing.

I'll agree with all of you guys saying that buying Gold solely to watch Netflix is dumb. And I agree that buying an Xbox with the intention of using it for offline games and Netflix, then complaining when you have to buy Gold anyway just to watch Netflix, is pretty shortsighted.

Look at it from a different perspective though. When I first bought my Xbox, I actually did play games online. I had a Live Gold membership from early 2008 until fall of last year. I grumbled a little bit over having to pay MS for the privilege of P2P multiplayer gaming that doesn't use their servers, but I let it slide because I got a lot of enjoyment out of it and it was worth it. Over the years, my interests changed, and I no longer cared about online gaming, so I let my membership lapse. At that point I realized I'd no longer be able to watch Netflix. My choices were to spend ~$40 per year on a Live Gold membership I'd be using exclusively to access my own Netflix account that I'm already paying for, or to buy a separate device for about twice that. I ended up getting a WDTV instead.

Okay, so it's not too big a deal, and I'm actually glad I got the WDTV anyway since the 360 is piss-poor at actually playing Netflix movies, but it's still kinda shitty. I know it's hard to wrap your head around it, but there are some people who actually don't care about online gaming. And those people have a significant overlap with people who like to use their 360s for non-gaming purposes.

So I get your arguments that you should do your research first and that Netflix is a "perk" and not an official feature of the Xbox. It's still shitty that it's the only device that requires two paid subscriptions to use Netflix instead of one. It is definitely a mark against MS in my opinion and it will definitely factor into my next console purchase. I still do occasionally find myself wanting to play games online, but not frequently enough to justify the price of Live Gold. The PS3 is often criticized for its online service, but for infrequent players it is perfect.

Why do people often say '$50/yr' for Live? It's like $35 unless you're just doing it completely wrong. **nm, I didn't read far enough in**
