Wired garage door keypad

I had to do some work on our garage door opener this weekend and "rediscovered" that we had a wired, keyed opener (on the side of the garage) not unlike this. I say rediscovered because, in the 4+ years we have lived here, we have never used it and, in fact, I do believe we ever had the key for it (and if we did, it is long lost).

I want to replace it with a wired (not wireless), keypadded opener. Unfortunately, Home Depot and True Value near my house do not have these.

Also, the ones I have found online have a "ribbon" wire. I am looking for one that connects to a 2-wire set-up (like the one above with the 2 screws).

Does anyone have one of these they would recommend? Where did you get it/can I find it?

Probably nothing more than a screwdriver or brute force.

The product details say nothing about the type of connections it uses but a reviewer says 2-conductor wire. Sounds like it could be it.

I use our keypad opener all the time. It's not convenient to have a remote with you all the time. Maybe I'm taking the dogs out through the garage and want to close the door behind me without having to carry the remote on our walk. Or I'm working in the front yard and need to get a tool from the garage.

I never have a remote with me. Both of our cars are programmed with the remote code. There have been many times when I had to open the door, turnoff the alarm and fight off the dogs just to get something out of the garage. IT would be a lot easier if there was a secure exterior way to open the garage.

BTW, its location is pretty well hidden from the street - you would have jump our gate in order to even know it was there.

they make wireless keypad openers

unless it's already wired like motionman's apparently is, i'd install a wireless.

Here are the specs for what I linked to. As you can see, it will work with any of the door opener brands listed here .. and it is a 2 wire connection from the remote to the opener.

nothing usually. It is a really big security flaw in a lot of the systems.
You can avoid that by using a multi-wire setup where the keypad contains a microprocessor that sends a string of characters to a microprocessor located inside the garage which then triggers the door If shorted outside all that happens at most is a damaged microprocessor. Two wire systems are also battery powered on the keypad so something else to consider.
