Wipeout type game for PC?

I REALLY miss Wipeout on my PSP and would love to play something like it on my PC. Anyone know if something like it exists? Other than Wipeout XL(2097).
 
Ballistics is the closest game I can think of, in the sense that you race hovering vehicles on futuristic tracks, although the gameplay mechanics are a little different. The sensation of speed in this is in a different league from any other racing game out there.
 
I loved the original Wipeout. One winter a buddy of mine and I were snowbound with nothing but my PS1. The two of us played that game to death. I'd complete a track, then it was his turn. Back and forth all night.

It was awesome. Seeing the new Wipeout brings me back to those days. Almost want to pull the trigger and get a PS3 now.

I had Wipeout XL for PC, but the game was coded so it would run faster the faster your PC is, so it would run ridiculously fast and be unplayable on todays PCs. Just get the PS1 version and get a PS1 emulator.
 
honestly WipeoutHD doesn't look good to me at all. It seems to be a league below all the other ps3/360 racers. Try FZeroGX for the Gamecube/Wii. It looks almost as good.

It's a Playstation Store game. Or does it look like it's below those too?

Ummm... no. Try looking through some screenshots for both games and compare them. While they have obvious similarities in design, Wipeout HD looks considerably better. I downloaded the 1080p version of that trailer from the UK PSN store and the game looks great. Also keep in mind that it's going to be a PSN downloadable game and not a full retail game.
 
I think it looks beautiful...and to be honest, I wouldnt care if it was PS1 quality. I am in love with this series...The feel of the ships is just awesome. Wipeout XL is one of my top 3 games of all time so I'll probably faint when I get this one 😉

ahh... in that case, I'm definitely wrong. I was comparing the WipeoutHD screens to Forza 2, Grand Turismo, and all the other standalone games.
