Just kidding, voice your opinion. Come trash Winzip. Of course I bought 30 licenses for work a couple years ago, so I won't be switching soon.

Not too many people will bother with it since XP has native support for Zip archives.

Can XP create a self extracting .exe file? Can XP password protect .zip files?

Hmm.. I actually haven't used WinZip since version 7, when I discovered WinRar. Actually, why would one want to use WinZip and not WinRar or WinAce?

WinRAR sounds good, but the download is only a 40 day shareware. I costs $35 for a license. WinZip is free.

Have they added the function to "Split" large files, say 1 GB into 2 i.e. 2 x 512MB? That woulb be worth it I think.

To split a Zip file into smaller pieces:

1. Open or create the Zip file.
2. Choose Split from the Actions menu.
3. Specify the name to be used for the split Zip file. The name must be different from the name of the open Zip file.
4. Specify the size to be used for the individual parts. You can choose from common sizes using the Part size drop-down list or you can specify your own size. To specify your own size, choose "Other size" in the drop-down list and type the desired size in the Other size field. You can specify the size in bytes, kilobytes (KB), or megabytes (MB); indicate which you're using by clicking the appropriate radio button. The minimum size allowed is 65,536 bytes (64KB).

5. Click OK to create the split Zip file.

Precisely.
I'm a loyal user of WinRAR.
