As far as i know, Windows File Protection has always been a WinXP feature for some time. But I never got any of those popups when installing drivers and the such with WinXP SP1 and WinXP SP2. The only time I ever remember seeing the Windows File Protection prompt was when replacing the uxtheme.dll file to support unsigned Windows Visual Styles.

I just did a WinXP SP3 (slipstreamed) clean install, and just plugging in a USB flash drive for the first time causes the Windows File Protection popup to appear 3 times. And I'm getting a Windows File Protection popup with every driver that i install.

Did something change from SP2 to SP3 that would cause it to start popping up when it didn't before?

I would like to hear the outcome of this.
If that is really the case XP SP3 will not
be installed on my pc or else I will do it
one update at a tiime thru Windows Update
and leave that pesky one (if I can id it) out.

Sounds like it might not be slipstreamed correctly. The driver cab file (which might contain sp2 files) will not be matching the actual dll's (sp3 files) and it's thinking they've been tampered with, hence the warning. It certainly does not happen when you install SP3 over SP2.
