I just built me a new system (specks below) and I'm having some 3D problems ( I Think) that I can't figure out. When I first boot-up WinXP after doing a fresh install every thing works great, but after installing all of my other software, anything related to 3D starts acting goofy. A couple of good examples are games.

Every and any game will run like 2 seconds then freeze for about 1 second then go about 2 seconds then freeze for about 1 second and on and on, in other words they freeze for about 1 second every couple of seconds, all of this while playing crystal clear.

Another example is "DXDIAG". The bouncing Box will freeze for about a second every couple of seconds. To make matters worse DXDIAG reports there are no problems.

What I have tried so far.
Reformatting and reinstalling Win XP, then installing a game (unreal), and check to make sure sytem runs fine, then setting up a system restore point and name it "GOOD". Then start the long process of installing all of my other software and check back to the game every once in awhile to make sure it still works. Then right when I get to the end 3D starts missing up again. So I'll try going back to the System Restore point that I named good, but this doesn't work because I still have the same freeziing problem. And before anybody say's hardware, then how come the system works great untill I install most of my software? I've tried installing in every order I could think of for 4 days straight. Finally I gave up and installed Win ME and now every thing seems to work great, that is great for Win ME.

the main software I use other then games is Office 2000, AutoCad 2000-R3, WinDVD and a program called FemaFM for viewing F.E.M.A. flood plain maps.

Can someone PLEASE help? I really want WinXP

Welcome to the forums. Have you got the latest drivers for your video card? Don't use the ones that come with XP cause they suck
 
Yea, tried the certified and uncertified ones. So, are you thinking video card? Because if thats it Ill go get another one.
 
It shouldn't be the video card unless it's damaged. Try testing it in another computer and seeing if you have the same problem. If you do, then it's probably time to get a new one.
 
The video card worked good in my other computer (AMD) with WinXP. I was just thinking maybe there is some kind of conflict between Intel, WinXP and/or Nvidia
 
If you're using 23.50's in XP, those cause some stability problems for me in XP. Oterwise try 3-4 different drivers.

Maybe even take out the other hardware for now (Audigy)
 
Also, update your motherboard drivers (which could also include the AGP drivers) and flash the BIOs to the newest (or most stable) version
 
Could be an IRQ conflict even with Win XP,what I normally do is make sure PCI slot 1 is empty(nearest to AGP slot) and some bios tweaks like disable all video shadowing , disable system bios cacheable & fastwrites in bios.You could also try moving the Audigy to a different slot,no easy fix on this you just have to try different things.
 
Man, you guys are great. I've posted in other forums before, and I always feel lucky if one or two people respond. So, let me start out by saying thanks to all of you for responding.

I have already tried flashing to different Bios's. I am currently on F6.

I played with most of the settings in my bios, however there isn't many settings you can change concerning video for this board.

I wasn't aware there were any updated AGP drivers needed for this chipset (intel 845-d). I'll check into this and see what I can find. I have not tried pulling out Audigy or changing around any PCI cards, because every thing was on its own IRQ.

While installing Audigy I did install more then just the drivers. I also installed AudioHQ and the Remote center. Yea I know, should install drivers only, but I really wanted the fade control on HQ and I think the remote control feature is cool.

One thing I didn't mention in my first post was that I had all of the same software and some of the same hardware on my other computer, and everything worked perfect. The only real differences between the two systems is the Mobo, Ram and Processor. No problems with WinXP.
 
Sideband and Dast Write are both AGP settings that can cause problems, especially with Nvidia cards. One or both of them should be able to be changed via BIOS.

SiSoft Sandra can tell you what is and not enabled on your system.
 
Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot

The setting is on the bottom of the window and it should not be checked.

I am not familiar with the MB or the chipset, but I remember this quote from a guide for setting up another MB that said 'If you have trouble in 3D or OpenGL applications when using GeForce cards, set the AGP Aperture size to 128MB will eliminate this problem'... Look in your BIOS and see what your AGP aperture size is set to, and set to 128MB if its listed as a different size...
