winXP won't boot with USB 2.0 card

Hey, Does anybody know what can be causing WinXP not to boot when I plug Adaptec's USB 2.0 PCI adapter? My motherboard is ASUS A7V266-E with AMD XP 1500+. I flashed the bios to Rev. 1005, but it didn't fix it. The USB card is definitely good, since I tried it on a different machine and it worked fine. I also tried plugging it into a different slot, but no result there either. However, when the card is out, everything works just fine.

Please help.

Thank you.

thank you for responding,
Unfortunately it was none of those things. I tried disabling on-board bios, on-board sound, taking out all the cards out, except for video - nothing. At first I blamed Adaptec, but then I went ahead and bought SIIG's card - same thing. Works fine on one computer, but on this one XP freezes at boot up every time I insert the card.... What else can it be? Oh, also I tried downloading all the latest drivers, including MSFT's patch for USB 2.0.

Am running XP Pro, and have a combo USB 2.0/Firewire PCI card (OrangeMicro) installed in a PCI slot that was paired with the onboard USB1 ports. I disabled the on board ports in BIOS and everything works . . . both Firewire and USB 2.

So, try putting your USB 2 card in a different PCI slot. Asus boards are usually slot-paired for sharing, and some things share better than others. (Slot one shares with AGP and is almost always a loser so I never use it.)
