winxp, win98 dual booting questions

I have a laptop that's acting really weird.
it has DVD burner but it only recognizes DVD media.
also in BIOS there's no option to boot from USB devices.
So I burned windows xp pro in DVD but it wouldn't boot.
I finally found a way to intall windows xp.
I had to boot from win98 starting disk using external FDD and install win98.
And then in win98 desktop, I could install windows xp. So now I have two OS in C and D.

my question
If I have win98 in C and winxp in D, is there a way to remove win98 now?

Assuming that windows 98 and windows xp are on separate partitions, you should just be able to delete the windows 98 partition and just recreate it. Then you have to modify your boot.ini to remove the option to boot to Windows 98.

to install winxp fron nothing.....

boot to dos using win 98 boot disk with CD ROM drivers..

Change to the CD device usualy D:

Use the "dir /p" command to see the contents of the windows Cd...

there should be a directory called "i386"

type "cd i386" to change to the i386 directory

then type "winnt.exe" and the installation will start....

there is a microsoft knowledgebase article here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have fun....doesn't help with your problem but will stop u doing it again!!

also why didn't you just do an upgrade from win98 and install it over the top.....or doesn't that work.....have done it with win Me but not sure about 98!
