WinXP wants to italicize web/email fonts?!...Feeling dumb here, plz help

Ok, I'm going crazy so someone please HELP😕

I went through the WinXP auto-update site and now the text for most web pages and my email are displayed in italics even though the font is not italicized...

This is most aggrevating...
 
did you look in Display Properties > Appearance Tab > Advanced Button for odd fonts. Or did you check in encoding settings?

My encoding option was not set to auto-select, although changing this option did not help me.

This is so odd, its almost like my standard windows font got replaced by the italicized version and WinXP doesn't know.

Again, it only happens in IE6 and in MS Outlook (required for work...). Has anyone ever heard of this?
