winXP + VIA

I know a lot of people are saying that WinXP has the VIA drivers built right in it, but since upgrading from 98, I've notice major IDE performance hits, few frames in games. Loading the levels in wolfenstein went from I'm always the first one there, to the last one. Installing the newest 4 in 1s in XP brought me up to almost the fastest again (usually 1st-2nd person in wolfenstein loading). My fps is up slightly too.

Just FYI for you people that might think leaving your drivers alone is good.

4 in 1s can be an exception to the rule at times, but I'd suggest otherwise in most instances unless suffering from stability problems...for 98SE users, no higher than the 4.34s are suggested, and the 4.37s are definitely to be avoided for any users...way too many people have had problems with those when using XP...I'd stick with the native drivers in XP as well as W2K...for 98SE users, 4.32s seem to be the most stable... 🙂

I've never had any problem with 4 in1s, on many systems, and many OSes. I've used each version for 98 that has came out with no problems, my guess is people aren't setting things up right.

I installed the latest 4 in 1 drivers on my WinXP, and downloaded the latest VIA 4.10 AGP driver which`s not included in the latest 4 in 1 drivers(4.37),I had a slight increase with the AGP driver and no problems with stability etc,I guess it`s a case of if you are confident with installing the VIA drivers with XP,I only do since I like to have the latest drivers.

The bottom line it`s up to you if you do or don`t but the recommendation with WinXP is not to install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers if you don`t have problems.
