Rogue1979... I think Black Viper has some nice hints, but some of them are too much. Some of the memory management changes are not really stable. From the enterprise side, they are definitely not recommended. Removing the paging system screws up Hibernate and laptops users are usually the executives. A few sessions with David Solomon are recommended before messing with it.
As for XP being 'bloatware'. The customers have gotten what they ask for. And they have asked for it. There are many, especially XP Home users, that want it to do everything. With it, bloat. If that is not your space, try Linux/Linspire. If you like the Win32 space, try using Bart's PE. Character based for the most part as the desktop APIs are not available. That does need 256MB to run with apps space, but the OS is less.
What Sianath has said is true, so you can use that to balance against what others are saying. 😀
Edit - PS - those MS fixes are for everyone. Add wireless or contractors/employees with notebooks to a mix and a firewall is useless.
