WinXP software issue with new HD

The bios shows my new slave HD, Windows device manager shows it to be operating properly but when I go into Windows Explorer my second HD is no where to be found.

It probably has something to do with me installing alcohol 120% and deleting it a couple weeks ago. That program caused numerous problems.

Thanks in advance for helping. I have a perfectly good 80Gig HD set up as a slave that WinXP won't recognize anywhere besides the device manager. I'm trying to avoid having to reinstall WindowsXP. :(

You have to use the CD that came with the hard drive to fully set it up properly. Look for something like "Set Up My New Hard Drive" on the CD Utility.

Well, this was an OEM HD I got as a replacement for an RMA. I guess I will have to bust out the bootable Windows disk.

I guess I'm just not used to XP yet. Stuff like this was so much simpler with Windows2000Pro. I am half tempted to just wipe the main drive clean and start over with Win2K again. :(

OK, I did the WinXP bootdisk thing to partition and format the drive and Windows insisted on installing on the new HD. Reformatting the HD is easy enough but how do I get rid of the "selection" of WinXP or WinXP, since there are now two installations as far as the main c drive knows. I thought it would let me create and format the partition but right after that it kept going... if I tried to stop it, it would keep asking for the disk on restart.

BTW, the HD is now recognized in either install of XP. I just need to ditch the second install. Yes, I know... beer and software don't mix. Help a brother out. Thanks. :)

Did you actually install winxp twice? If not, all you need to do is edit the C:\boot.ini to remove the option. If you can't figure out the file yourself, you want to read a tutorial or something so you don't have to reinstall.
