I get to the point where after the install i get a reboot.. and a screen pops up...

"setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration..."

How long is this screen up for? i think i froze up 🙁
 
For me it took for ages.

I got sick of waiting and reset the PC....bad move.


Just leave it for ages. I'm talking 10-30+ mins
 
It shouldnt take but 5 minutes, at least in my experience. Try taking out the unnecessary hardware (sound, nic, modem, etc), anything that XP does not need to install. I hope this helps.
