WinXP SBLive! 5.1 Detected and looks fine. No sound.

The card is setup just fine, updated through Windows update, no problems detected anywhere. Gone through all the standard checks like the device manager, sound properties and all that. Nothing is wrong. But no sound. Works in Millenium. Didn't have sound before or after the setup. When using the driver disk, it installs fine but no sound.

Anyone had this problem or heard of it?

Millenium works, all ok.
WinXP no sound but all reported ok by the system.

my friend is having the same problem right now. can't seem to figure out what's wrong yet. we did the exact same stuff that you said, so i'm hoping for a solution elsewhere. next thing i'm gonna try is removing the pci card, boot up, reinstalling the sound card, and boot up again. this will reinstall the sound card in the OS, i believe.

sounds stupid, but check all of the volume controls in your media players, sometimes if the sound is low in "real player" or "windows media", then the system sound gets turned down too. if it's not the software sound control that's messed up then i'd try taking out and putting the card back in like "chang10is" said.

Also, make sure if your speakers are not connected to digital output, "Digital Output Only" isn't checked in volume properties (Volume Controls >> Options >> Advanced Controls >> Advanced >> "Digital Output Only". At the same time, if your speakers are connected to digital output, "Digital Output Only" should be checked.

most of the time when my sound doesnt work its because i plugged the speakers into the wrong plug....but im probably the only one to ever do that...multiple times

Besides checking the cables and volumes I would go with Chang's solution and take the card out. Then boot XP so it finds that there's no sound and power it off again. Then stick the card in and see if it's recognized.

i also forgot to mention, make sure that your "onboard" sound is disabled. i had the problem w/ my santa cruz. the VIA onboard sound was the primary sound device so the computer didn't care whether or not the sound card was working.
