WinXP Safe Mode Refresh Rate too high for LCD

I have a 17" Benq FP791 LCD which has a max refreshrate of 75Hz as does most LCD monitors. My problem is that I can't get into safe mode in winxp or vga mode without the monitor saying OUT OF RANGE. They both use 85hz..which is too high for my LCD. Luckily, I have a CRt i can use to plug in and change the refresh rate, but I am going away to college in a few days and I am not lugging the CRt with me. So how am I going to deal with this?? Any solutions?

That can't be right. Safe Mode and VGA mode both use 60hz refresh if I'm not mistaken.
Thats the point, so you can get into Windows to adjust any problems.
There has to be some other reason. It shouldn't default to 85hz.
Are you using any third party refresh rate fix or anything like that?

I am using reforce, yes but everything is either locked to 75Hz or 60Hz. Safe Mode and VGA mode boots me up with 85Hz. Yeah i was just thinking that it wouldn't be normal to have safe mode and vga mode at such a high refresh rate....hmm maybe during one of those uninstalls, i screwed something up...ahh reformat.
