WinXP registry issue

I just "recovered" from an inexplicable RAID 1 stability problem, which in turn caused some kind of registry damage. When I bootup now, I always get this message: "One of the files containing the System's registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful."

My system seems to run just fine so far despite this, but I can no longer access Photoshop CS without re-registering the product, as it believes I have a new hardware configuration (I do not of course.)

How do I repair this damage, or even get specifics on what the damage actually is?

I do. The only side effect seems to be the mistaken hardware config info for Photoshop, and the annoyance of the message. Otherwise my system is fully operational, though prone to another RAID issue at any time I suppose, since nobody could reason out why that happened in the first place.

I searched the Microsoft newsgroups and databases extensively last night searching for answers to this problem. I tried one of their recommendations, namely getting the ntuser.dat file from the windows\repair folder, copying it over my user one in Documents and Settings, and proceeding with a system restore to a point prior to the error, but the system restore naturally failed, leaving me with my personal info and Outlook settings gone. I was able to restore my Outlook settings after further research, however, and have gotten things back to where they were prior to implementing the Microsoft solution.

I'm sure I could fix this with a fresh install on my Windows partion, but it's such a seemingly minor error that it seems like massive overkill, especially since the RAID situation never truly resolved to my satisfaction.

Any solutions out there?

If you are getting that message every boot then it means every boot one of your hives is being damaged and windows is using the .alt copy of it.

What's your system event log look like? You getting any 7,9,11,26,50,51,55s? (excluding print notifications obviously)

Looking through the event log, I have numerous 26s, at least one 55, but not near each other at all. My assumption has been that the RAID issue changed something small in the registry that hasn't been repaired at all, as opposed to something being damaged every time.

I'm not experienced with the log, so if there's something more specific I should be looking for let me know.

Is there a way to just repair the hive once and for all, or replace the corrupt file in safe mode or something? This lack of Photoshop is becoming a bigger and bigger deal, and Microsoft tech support is across the country long distance.
