Hi, I've searched this forum and the Microsoft website, but no luck. Here's my problem:

Attempted clean install of Win XP Pro on new system consisting of Athlon XP 2800+ Barton on A7N8X deluxe, bios revision 1002a (latest available), 2 each Corsair XMS series low latency PC3200 DDR SDRAM in slots 1 and 3, Asus CRW-5224A CD-RW, Western Digital WD1200JB 120 GB hard drive, Alps 3.5" floppy drive, Powercolor Radeon 9700 Pro video card, standard PS2 mouse & keyboard. Windows installation partitioned entire drive using NTFS, copied Windows files as usual, attempted first reboot on hard drive, and failed with message "Error Loading Operating System". Attempted reformat (both "full" and "quick") and reload several times, same result. I'm running bios defaults at this time, no tweaking.

I next attempted an install of Win98 on this system, which went off fine - no errors, no difficulty. I deleted all partitions and reformatted in FAT32, and she seems OK with Win98. Deleted Win98 partition, repartitioned NTFS again, and had same lockup with XP Pro installation.

Any suggestions? The only article MS had that was even close related to a bios issue with IBM computers and being able to recognize large hard drives, which doesn't seem to apply. I'm about out of ideas, here.

Thanks,

Gary

Hmm, no news is definitely not good news. Could the Windows CD be bad? I don't see how that could be a problem, since it boots & all, but I'm grasping at straws here. Help!
