WinXP PRO/IE Problems

Hello, I have an IBM T23 laptop that came with Win2k Pro and has been upgraded to WinXP Pro,
I have been running this setup for four months now without a problem until now.

When I go to open a favorite from the favorites menu, they are no longer there.

Instead of all of my favorites the entire contents of my WINNT folder (I upgraded from 2k)
Is listed in the favorites menu rather than my favorites file. I can add new favorites and if I do a search of my Hard Drive the favorites file with all of my original favorites is still there but for some reason they do not show up under the favorites menu in IE any longer..

Anyone know how I can stop IE from showing my WINNT folder's contents where it should be showing all of my favorites?

My friend says he once encountered this problem when running win2k pro he thinks (or something very similar) but he cannot remember how he solved it other than just reformatting.
I would really rather not do this and he usually just reformatts at the sign of any computer troubles rather than figuring out what is acutally wrong.

Also I can go to organize favorites under the favorite menu and try and manually delete everything, but I am worried that A) this will effect my WINNT folder and B) windows won't let me delete everything (I assume to protect the files in WINNT)? any help would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks a lot

Hello Neal,
When ever you want to upgrade your OS (from a different version) always do a freash install. You could always reinstall over itself, but I would do a clean install and see if it is better over the long term. Usually a freash install is better.
