Howdy All!

I have a Hercules Fortissmo II sound Card. I have my XP setup with me as Admin, family members (5, 6th is too young still! :D ) as Users. My Sound Control App (called Gamesurround) resides in my app bar lower rt. I often switch between Speakers/Headphones depending on the Game, etc..I'm using. This App also sits in the Control Panel of course.

Problem is none of the Users have any control over this app. It does not load for them, and does not respond when they try to start it in the Control Panel. I question Hercules about it and this is their responce:

Dear Customer, The Control Panel needs full read&write privileges in the \Windows folder. Regards, Philippe Delisle Hercules Technical Support Specialist

Ok, I understand that having done the same thing for some of my Games, problem is I can find nothing that looks like the Control Panel in the Windows Folder. (I do have Explorer setup to see all file types)

Anyone know where I can find the Control Panel so I can open up Permissions on the Sound App. (found nothing in the Sound Program folder that deals with this app.)

Thank You for any help!

Trying doing a search for *.cpl in your Windows folder and see if any of the entries correspond to the App. The *.cpl extension for the files that appear in the Windows Control Panel.

I assume that you have everyone else set up as a limited user and you are the only admin? You will need to give everyone permission to write to the Windows folder, it's not an issue of you needing to set permissions on the control panel itself. When logged in as a limited user, nothing that user does will be allowed to access certain apps or write to certain folders.

You may be able to add certain users to the "Power Users" group, using the Computer Management tool in Administrative Tools. This should give them the ability to do most everything, but not be full admins. At the same time, remove them from the "Users" group, so that there are no conflicts with permissions.
