WinXP is a ripoff of OSX!

I can't believe it, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised, considering that those MS guys seem intent on implementing the latest technology, but bungling the entire thing and releasing a shoddy piece of work. I have been using MacOSX for the better part of the year, and honestly, I think it is a fantastic operating system, and with its BSD underpinnings, I think the Mac will finally make headway. However, after seeing the XP windowing and interface system, I have to think that Apple's lawyers are going to get the nod. This is such a blatant copy of OSX, I would be ashamed to be on the design staff at Microsoft.

I have had enough of MS. Makes me glad that I swtiched away from the platform a while ago. And with StarOffice, Metrowerks CW, Apache(!) and Linux (or Mac OSX), I don't feel the pinch.

No kidding. Microsoft always gets ideas from Apple. But because this is a hardware forum, I wouldn't be surprised if this thread gets locked by the omnipotent Anandtech Moderator.

And the original Apple GUI was ripped off from Xerox.

Companies rip each other off constantly. If you want to talk about WinXP's strengths and weaknesses, you could easily do so without being such trolls.

microsoft hasn't come up with a piece of orignial software since DOS, and thats still debatable. but hey, they;re #1 so they gotta be doing something right

Well I guess I should reply before it gets locked then. WinXP is not a "shoddy piece of work". It is a very stable and easy to use OS with the benefits of Win2k and 98 together (I know, I've used all of them). Besides, companies copy each others ideas all the time (anyone heard of the Xerox GUI)?

Copying looks and feels of an OS is nothing new and APPLE is not immune to it.

Where did Apple get their look for the first class mac? No, they didn't design it, they blatantly ripped it from Xerox's PARC. Steve Jobs won't admit to it, but when Apple sued MS over "look and feel", MS used Xerox's PARC as part of their defense and won. The GUI has been done, over and over again. I like Apple's GUI, but I still prefer Be's look over all else.

Unfortunately, I work in a Win32 environment, so I have to run Win32 everything.
