I am trying to set up WIN XP on my computer with RAID 0. The damn windows install gets to some certain percentage and then says can not copy file from CD press ENTER to CONTINUE or F3 to QUIT. I try pushing enter, i try putting in 3-4 different WIN XP CD's, i try restarting, etc.

Each time i restart my computer and restart installation it gets to the same or different percentage like it will copy the same, more, or less files and then again say WIN XP can not find or copy from the CD etc.

WHAT THE HELL DO I DO?

I have tried 10-12 times to install this CRAP

Thanks.

1) Are you using a legit, or pirated copy of XP? I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt & assume for now that you are using a legitimate copy. If you're not, get one.
2) Have you installed drivers for your RAID controller (F6 during the install)?

I assume when you say, "3-4 different WIN XP CD's", that these are not originals.

Anyway, it could be your CDRom not able to read those copies correctly. I had the same thing happened to me when I tried to install XP on my computer. It would hang at a certain percentage completion, actually with a certain file, and no further. I then used the CDRW drive on the system and it completed the installation with no more hiccups.

i have pirated and original.....i used both CD-Rom and CDRW still no damn luck.

What could be the problem? I mean it hangs at all sorts of different places....it just goes and goes and then all of sudden stops on a random file each time i try to install...

yeah i already installed the RAID controllers and stuff this was happening before I set up raid on my system also.

When i first got my PC made it installed and worked fine now it isnt installing anything

Thanks

Are your RAID channels ATA100 or 133? If so can you manually force them to ATA66 or ATA33. I know of people who had problems installing from CDROM to ATA100 HDs when the mixed motherboards first came out, the solution (unfortunately) was to bust the HD down to an ATA66 or ATA33 channel (it was some kind of caching/timing issue).

Alternately if you have the RAID array configured and formatted you could boot from a CD or floppy and copy the installation to the HD (array) and run it. (At least you could for everything up to and including ME/2K ... perhaps XP won't let you do this ... although your pirated version should).

Whenver I have problems while installing the OS, which I have had this particular issue happen to me before as well, I go back and fdisk the damned thing and start a new. That always seems to do the job...

You could copy the contents of the CD to hard drive and install from there. I've done that.

;) With all this hassle and time it's already took you might as well try installing it without the RAID to one of your HDs, if the install is successful this would rule out faulty/incompatible components/CD. Then you can start to look into why the RAID is stopping the installation, you may need to boot from the CD and enter the Recovery Console, I seem to rem that has something to do with RAID in one of its Recovery Menus. Be sure to try M$ and the RAID chipset's websites for more info.

The last time I installed XP I had to remove all the hardware except the stuff you need. Kept stalling until I removed one of the 2 sticks of RAM I had.

I had the exact same problem with a Win2000 install once, turned out one of the ram slots on the mobo was bad, it took me forever to figure out what the deal is... I'd give that a shot before you rip your hair out

How are you installing XP? Did you boot from the CD or did you start the install inside another operating system? You should install XP by booting from the install CD.

You should check your memory and hard drive(s) for problems. Run Memtest86 for a few passes through your memory and run your hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic software on all of your hard drives.

Also, if you're overclocking, STOP IT.
