WinXP: How do I change hardware associations?

OK, I set the default for when I plug my camcorder in to automatically open a video editing program. (I checked the "always perform this action" box when it asked what I wanted to do in response to connecting the camera).

I also seem to have somehow set my scanner button default action to do nothing, where it used to load the scanner software when I pressed the button.

Now I want to reset these so they always asks me my preference - how the heck do I do this? I no longer get the dialog, so I can't uncheck the box!

Thanks!

Did you go into the Properties dialogs for the two devices (scanner and camcorder). You should be able to set the Autoplay behaviors there.

Do you mean the System Properties dialog, for the devices in Device Manager? If so, then yes, I looked there, and there does not seem to be any autoplay setting shown!

Right-click the file you want to open in a different program, and then click Properties.
On the General tab, click Change.
Click the name of the program in which you want the file to open.

This change affects all files that have the same file name extension as the file you selected. For example, if you change the program that opens a .jpg file, all .jpg files will open in this program.
You can also change the program that opens a file by right-clicking the file, clicking Open With, and then clicking the program name. If the program you want is not displayed, click Browse.

I'm sorry. I could have been quite a bit more informative there. I didn't mean the Device Manager. On my WinXP systems Cameras and Scanners show up under Windows Explorer / My Computer. I meant to right-click on the each device under My Computer, select Properties, and select the Autoplay tab on that dialog. It's a different Properties dialog than the one you get under Device Manager, and it should have the Autoplay tab.

Cool! I never knew the properties there had anything different/useful. That was exactly what I was looking for!

Thanks!
