WinXP Home: How do you get Windows to remember your login and password to a domain

I just purchased a new Toshiba laptop. It came with Windows XP Home. Since it is a laptop, I think it is fine for the most part. However, there is one thing that is really bugging me. When I need to access some websites that are on my companies domain, I input my login and password but Windows XP doesn't give me the option to remember these settings. So each time I visit this page, I need to re-enter my login and password which gets really annoying. Does anyone know a way around this? Thanks in advance.

It kind of dumb that Microsoft didn't include the ability to log into a domain with WinXP Home. Any other suggestions?

you made the same mistake i originally did.

he means logon to a company website. not domain as in active directory. he just want's IE to remember his log on and password.

BTW, xp pro won't store your active directory password so that you dont' have to enter it to login either. boy would that be an administrative nightmare.

that's an IE function. not an XP function

Actually it is an XP function.

Full domain support (including caching of credentials) is an XP professional feature, XP home doesn't support it (the idea is to make sure companies get Pro and not Home. Your scenario is sort of the border, but you unfortunately get bit with the restriction).

are you sure you read his post? he says he's able to log in and he just want's XP to remember the login and password so that he doesn't have to enter it again and again.

that tells me he is logging on to a website not an active directory DOMAIN. also, XP Pro does not have a function that will allow you to store passwords so that you can skip the entering of password to log in. obviously it stores your password in your profile, but not for logins.

Sorry, I am logging into a company website that is internal only (on the domain). I am inside of the company right now so I don't need to VPN although this problem also happens if I VPN from home also.

Are there any third party utilities out there that can do this? It sounds like a little problem. There should be some way around this....please 🙁

right

so you are loggin into a website and hence the storing of passwords is an IE function NOT an XP function.

as the MS making XP Home so that it can't log on to domains. that's an entirely different story.

Again. i don't think ur listening. No network administer in their right mind would allow someone to install a 3rd party program that would store DOMAIN Username and Passwords like that.

Now once again, if ur talking password like storing Hotmail Passwords that's an IE function. look around u'll figure it out.

I might be a bit confused. On my previous laptop which I had WinXP Pro, I would type in "domain.com\login" and the the password. There would be a check box that would remember my log in and password for this site. Just looking for something like this. I guess I would need to upgrade to WinXP Pro. 🙁

I believe I did, I do think this issue is part of the home limitation. As the poster says above, he can do this on his XP rig.

oh. u mean u can do that??

🙂

I get this problem at Run (when trying to access other computers on the domain) or when accessing company websites on the domain through IE.

My companies website doesn't display properly with Mozilla or else I would have tried that.

get XP Pro.

XP home doesn't allow domain logins. what you are doing is, ur loggin onto each of the resources one at a time. peer to peer.

xp pro will allow you to log onto the company domain.
