I first installed winxp in ntfs, but couldn't read my second drives info...so I reinstalled xp with a fat32 and still under my computer no d and e drive for my maxtor 45g ata100 drive...

It finds it in the bios and it is listed in system devices just no way to view files or access the drive....I have it jumpered to slave just as it was on my athlon setup w/ win 98....I am now running xp on an i845d mobo with p4 northwood....

I followed instruction on how to initialize a drive and no go....What is up??? I hear that I should have been able to view it even from a ntfs disk....

I am going to install win98 until I get some answers....

I had the same problem, and ended up having to format the drive in xp before it saw it. Thankfully, I had my junk backed up, but I never did find an answer.
My second drive was also ntfs, was yours?

I have my main HDD as NTFS and my secondary HDD that was formatted and partitioned on another computer as fat32. The fat32 drive is recognized in XP Pro, and works like a champ. I would think you have a jumper or cabling issue from your description.

I never removed the cables from previous setup....I unplugged the main primary cable from my ecs board's primary ide controller...same jumpers and cable connection as worked perfectly on athlon system....

It recognizes it just can't read from it or make the drive visible in my computer....

Is it a problem it was formatted in win 98 and has 2 partitions on the drive???

PLease help...this setup has been already twice as bad as any athlon setup to date...and I am not even discussing the issues I am having with my msi board...
