are there any free programs i can use to check SMART status of HDD or surface scan? I tried to d/l my manufacturer's software (IBM) but for some reason it says I don't have any IBM HDD's?!! I only got 2 HDDs and they both GXP60's.

I think one of them is starting to make noises. I really need to check them out. Any advice?

What are you smoking? WinXP does have a scandisk utility. In the WinNT world it's scalled chkdsk.

If you want to keep anything on that drive, back it up NOW. I'm currently in the process of RMAing an IBM drive that "Started maknig noises".

80GB of stuff... gone.

chkdsk

You can also download ActiveSMART to check on lots of SMART features. You can also post in the correct forum.
