Grrrrrrrr....

Windows XP's inability to remember your autoplay settings correctly is so vastly irritating when you have 200+ CD's worth of data to restore... If I tell it "do nothing" and "perform this action everytime" it still asks the next time. Fine. If I right click the CD drive, click properties, and select that option for every type of CD, tell it to do it every time, it will actually comply for 3-4 (sometimes 1-2) CD's before reverting to asking me everytime again. Why can't it just remember my preference like I've set it, is it that difficult? It has the same problem with folder view settings. Anybody know how to completely turn off autoplay (or at least that dumb function where it pops up asking you what you'd like to do with the CD you popped in each time) ? I'm baffled.

you might want to try rebooting your computer after turning off autoplay in the device manager... it might not be remembering your settings because it saves them on a clean reboot and your computer might be continually locking up or something..

anyway, this question would probby go better in 'technical support' or one of the other categories

Thanks bro, but it's more of a rant than a question by now. I've asked in General Hardware and Software before IIRC, and I got some great answers, but none of them have been permanent.
