WinXP Disk Defragmenter: Can I have it automatically start to defrag on program launch?

Hi there...

I would like to schedule my disk defragmenter in Windows XP to automatically start and defrag my C: drive at night, but I'm wondering how I tell it to automatically do the C: drive and not just run the program at the scheduled time... is this possible?

Any help is much appreciated!!

Regards,

I don't believe this can be done. Since the XP disk defragmenter is a licensed scaled down version of Diskkeeper, I think they deliberately made it so you couldn't schedule it, so that you'd upgrade to the retail product.

Bingo.

Diskeper is perfect for this.

You can set up a magnitude of aoto start times to suit your preference.
Personally, I have mine defragging every two hours

Of course you can schedule it, there is just not the scheduling interface built in to the bundled version that there is in diskkeeper.

However, all you have to do is add a scheduled task via control panel/performance and maintenance/scheduled tasks.
Schedule the following command: C:\WINDOWS\system32\defrag.exe c: -f
