OK, I have got WinXP running for two months now and I started to notice a problem today. When I want to shutdown my PC by clicking the shutdown icon, my PC restarts instead of shutting down! I tried a few times and it happened like that too.

I haven't installed anything new lately but I think I installed the latest VIA AGP 4.1 driver few days ago (didn't install any 4 in 1).

Pls. help me, thank you.

It's probably the auto-recovery. Something is causing your system to crash upon shutdown, so it reboots.

Just taking a look over the posts before putting in my problem, same as yours. Just installed and this started a few days later, instead of shutting down it restarts.
Where to start looking?
I miss my Norton System Works Pro, new ones on the way though. Always had luck with it sorting out problems.

check your power management settings....i believe u can configure the shutdown to do different things - i.e .restart...if that's not it, then i've no idea.

Go to windows update and update fully

There are a number of users who are noticing that their PC will no longer automatically power down/shut off without pressing the power off button on the computers unlike in Windows Me/95/2000.
There could be a number of reasons for this - but the main one seems to be that ACPI is not enabled on the computer or in Windows XP. Here is how to try that out:

1: Click - Start - Control Panel - Performance and Maintenance - Power Options Tab

2: Then click APM - Enable Advanced Power Management Support
