I recently had a computer failure, don?t know how i came across such a corruption but i did. Anyway, anytime i try to start my computer i get the blue screen saying problem detected........STOP: 0x00000024...... tells me to run CHKDSK /f This screen appears no matter what i try SAFE mode, Last good settings mode, etc. I dont want to format this drive because i have many important files on it. Please tell me how i can resolve this issue.

Boot the WinXP CD.
Select Repair Windows.
It will drop you out to a Dos like prompt.
Type in the Chkdsk /f

Thanks, but no need for that now. The problem was solved by booting from a HD containing WIN2K with the WInXP HD connected. Chkdsk automatically loaded on booting and checked the WinXP volume and fixed some files in STage 2 of scanning. Now , reverting back to the XP HD, Win XP has loaded correctly.

Thanks again.
