WinXP/Asus P5B D doesn't recognize NEC 7170 DVD

I installed a new P5B deluxe and windows XP, and windows is not recognizing the NEC 7170 DVD drive.

The drive worked before with another MB, the P5B is recognizes the DVD upon Boot Up, but the drive is not there after Windows loads up.

I've tried Master, Slave, and Cable options with the DVD drive.
I tried a new cable from the MB box. No luck.

Does anybody have a clue what could be wrong?

Also, in the bios, I don't really see any place where the IDE units are recognized. Only Sata drives. On bootup, IDE HD and IDE DVD are recognized before Windows loads.

Did you use this NEC 7170 drive to install windows in the first place? That is a strange issue, maybe to to control pannel and add hardware and see if it finds anything. I know once I reinstalled windows and windows just would not regognize the extra HD that was connected. Then I went to add new hardware and the drive showed up.

If you put the NEC in another computer does it still work?

If it does, then perhaps you could put it back in the older omputer, maybe there is a firmware update for the NEC.

I was planning on swithching it over anyway.

I will look for an update. That's a possibilty. I got it when it first came out.
Thanks.
