You know, Arizona isn't all desert. I believe Flagstaff got 100 inches 2-3 years ago or something like that.

Could be sidewalks and/or cold. Depending on where you are it could be decently cold in the mornings the next couple days.
It's crazy how northern and southern Arizona (and New Mexico) have such different weather.

Dunno what your living situation is, but a couple of these lanterns throw off a lot of heat, and you can cook on top with a modified coffee can. They'll heat a small room tolerably well. Fumes kind of suck, but ultrapure lamp oil reduces them somewhat. Good for emergencies, and about as classic as it gets.

Small town, gets looted (figuratively) whenever snow storms are mentioned.

Bad part was 4 or so inches of snow then freezing rain all night which turned to rain all day then to ice that night.

My cousin's kid goes to Ole Miss (in northern MS), and they've been sent home for two weeks because of all of the ice. Apparently there's not much power or food around.

My granddaughters are in northern VA and they haven't had school all week.

Well, the last storm was a nothing burger here, but we were lucky. I still hear traffic on the scanner where fire and EMS are still dealing with icy backroads and driveways. Not complaining, as we don't need a half inch of ice on trees and lines.

Now waiting on the next one, arriving Friday afternoon. It is already cold, so whatever falls is going to stick. Previous forecasts were all over the place, but for this time they all are on the same page: snow, but just snow, all in the 5-10 range. I can deal with snow, at least up to a point, and prepping for the last storm is still in place.

Just rain, rain, and more rain here...for now.
Acuweather is "predlicting" a chance of snow for mid-to-late February...we'll see. Early-to-mid February is when we usually get snow...if we get any at all.

After at least 3 mild winters here in central NJ, it seems that we've finally gotten an old fashion damn-this-sucks winter. And here I was hoping it was a long term trend.

It may still be of course. One never knows, do one?

I suspect, hope, that this might still be the trend. I grew up around here and winter has always sucked the chrome off a trailer hitch. Global warming doesn't seem to be a complete terror, well, not for everyone. But talk to me again when I get my first summer electric bill. ARGHHHH!!

Four complex incident management teams are ordered for storm response, two to Mississippi and two to Tennessee. For perspective: four teams were needed for Katrina and only one for 9/11.

I'm a little south of you, but didn't you have some decent cold last year? Not much snow, but it felt like winter for awhile. Before that, I couldn't even guess when the last winter was. Waaay more than 3 years for sure.

I fucking love winter. I have cold weather health problems, and I'll still take it over summer every single time. I'd happily go out and shovel snow every week instead of shortening the stupid grass. And ya know what? I haven't seen a tick or mosquito in months.

We haven't had a winter this year. We had only one night with a bit of frost. There is still time but not much.

Cold air isn't a problem since I live in a cave. Well, technically, an aluminum sheathed, wood framed contrivance.

Since I don't really believe in this thing called "outside," the only subjective diff is whether I complain about it being too hot or too cold.

I think that I'm a bit of a pyromaniac. I got this torch that connects to a propane tank. I think the intended purpose is to melt tar. I think I'm going to bust that out just for yucks. It sounds like a jet engine when it's lit. I'm going to try it out on the ice and see what happens. Heehee.

I have one of these...

Works great for ridding the driveway of weeds and such.

It has been so cold here in the Northeast. We got about 18 inches of snow last weekend and it's not melting. It's 2 degrees out as I'm typing this. Bays and inlets are freezing over. Everyone is anxious about the piles of snow hogging so many parking spots. The piles on the sides of the road at intersections make it impossible to see oncoming traffic. People have to walk in the road because sidewalks are buried. There's nowhere to put snow because it isn't melting. People are losing their minds. It's like everyone forgot what a New England winter can be like sometimes. I feel for the folks farther away in the south without power and suffering in single-digit temperatures. Folks don't have wood stoves, the same kind of insulation you find in colder climates. Brutal. People dying.

Midwest is still super cold. Was 0 when I woke up. Going to be below average most of this week but warming up relative to what we've had lately at least. Really miss going outside.
