Winsock error?

Just tonight I started getting these errors from Windows.. they look pretty serious:

Error in Winsock Module
Connection Structure is Unknown
Possible reason:
Your firewall and/or Antivirus application block the System-File: smss.exe [I get the same thing for services.exe and csrss.exe too]
Make sure that smss.exe can connect to the internet!

Nothing else happens afterwards though that I know of.. and before I started getting these errors there was some sort of memory error that said a module could not be read and a reboot was necessary. After rebooting these errors started appearing. Any ideas?

Hmm.. on further inspection I seem to be running two copies of each of these files. One of them is running under system processes and one of them is running under my username. Could this mean anything?

I may have found the problem.. can any of you guys just search for the directory c:/windows/connection wizard on your comps to see if it's legit? Cause all 3 of the files are in that folder and it says it was just created today.

Do a Goggle search for "Winsock Lspfix" and download the zip file. Run the exe and it might solve the problem. The winsock cannot be repaired by doing a windows repair and the Lspfix has worked well for me in the past to fix internet connection related problems. The file is small and runs in the blink of an eye, so don't be concerned if you don't see it running very long.

I have the C:/Windows/Connection wizard folder, but it is empty.

Just wondering: Who is your ISP. Just lately, COX started blocking port 25, which makes it hard to send email via SMTP. I had to set up my servers to listen to port 25 and 26. Not to mention a lot of my customers suddenly started to have this problem.

No it doesn't. Send email through their SMTP server and you're set.

Wow, I've just started getting same thing, with a vengeance! Exactly like you. If you get yours fixed, I sure would appreciate knowing how.

I'm new here, but my email is berryman@copper.net, and I'd sure appreciate any time you took to fill me in.
