Newbe ? A friend of mine sent me (ahem!) a program (winrar compressed file )
I extracted the archived program and ended up with a 600mb
.bin file. Where do I go from here ? How do I convert to an
executable install file
Thanks John in Miami

You burn .bin with CDRWin, you need the cue sheet, should have extracted with it. You can download a trial version of CDRWin Here The trial vrsion will only burn at 1X, but if it's a one-shot deal that shouldn't really matter. If you try to use an invalid serial # for CDRWin you will probably wind up with a lot of coasters. It is a good program, worth buying.

Thanks I'll try to muddle my way through. A unknown procedure is always a learning experience.

You unrar it and get a .bin and .cue and then use CDRWin to burn it to a CD like cloudchief said.

A .bin is the data of a CD, it's a CD image. the .cue is like a table of contents sort of..tells the program where the data belongs, and the actual data is in the .bin

You need CDRWin to burn it, it's an excellent program, I have a license for it and it's copied anything I've thrown at it.

It's also extremely easy to use.

All the above information is true.. but I personally like to use fireburner over cdrwin.

Its just another option.

Well.... My first attempt gave me a coaster .... is there a step I
am missing or any hints on a method .. In the interim I'll give fireburner a shot
Thanks , John

It helps if you have a .cue file as well -- provides the info on the type of disc to be burned.

He couldn't have made a coaster without a cue sheet, unless he burned it using the backup utilities instead.

This is all new to me I'm trying to break the code. This ain't intuitive to us old geesers I tried Fireburner and got nowhere - what is the sequence of the burn. cue then bin ?
fireburner turns the cue into an iso text file what next? , cdrwin seems to do it in one step . Is ther a definitive how to posted somewhere so I can stop pestering everyone.
