WinNT4 or Win2K

What do you think?...what would you install on a PII-233, 192MB, 8GB HD....WinNT4 or Win2K?...
Applications that are commonly used: IExplorer, OExpress, Office Apps, and a couple of math apps (matlab and mathcad).
I'd like to install Win2K, but I have my serious doubts about how it will perform...I'm afraid it'll be a nightmare to move around

Thanks

Win2k will run fine on that system...its not going to be blazing fast, but it will be fine for the browing, email and office stuff...not sure about the math apps, but then NT wont necessarily be any better.

Give 2k a shot, I think you'll be much happier with it than NT.

NT will be MUCH faster than 2k on that system.

Install the minimum Service Pack you need to keep it fast, usually SP4 or 5 is sufficient.

Jsut NT is a bitch if something goes wrong... not very user friendly like 2k is.

But I still use NT whenever I can 🙂

Win2k's biggest problem isn't that it's processor hungry. It need lots of RAM and a fast hard disk. 192 MB should be enough for the light work your going to be doing. I would go with Win2k just because it's more stable and a lot more user friendly.

Y2K..
It's enough ram...I have a 266 at work, works fine for office...
dont know about math apps though.

Is it a laptop or a desktop?
If it is a laptop forget NT no power management!

Anyway a very customized 2K install should do the trick, I running 2K on a laptop with P2-266,160MB,4GB and it works fine!

Just don't expect those math programs to run very fast!!!
