Winners and Losers of the NFL Draft Day 1 ?

Winners:

Oakland: Buchanon at 17 - steal, Harris at 23, good pick.
Dallas - Got the guy they wanted and some extra picks. WR Antonio Bryant and CB Derek Ross were steals.

Losers:

Washington - There comes a point of diminishing returns when trading down. The skins obletirated that line today.
Cinncinati - They don't call them the Bungles for nothing.

I'm happy with the Lions getting Joey. Although, I think they would've been better served with trading that pick for a bunch of others. From what I understand the Redskins were the only ones serious, and they just didn't have enough to offer.

That's ok, though. Harrington could very well end up being a total NFL stud.

Winners:

Kansas City - Trading picks with Dallas allowed them to take Ryan Sims away from the Vikes. Boy was I pissed, but they needed him just as much.
Vikings - All three of their picks addressed major concerns, but with Sims going to KC their biggest problem remains.

Winners: Cowboys, Lions, Vikings, Niners (made the most of only 2 picks), Cardinals, Raiders (two #1 picks makes it easy to "win")

Losers: Seahawks (by far the worst day 1), Falcons, Eagles, Redskins, Bengals, Colts, Packers (lost 2nd rounder for nothing)

I am tempted to throw the Eagles into the losers pile as well. Can someone explain to me WTF Reid was thinking drafting 3 DBs in the first and second rounds??? They have arguably the best collection of DBs in the league. Are they anticipating some imminent retirements or something?

EDIT: Added more teams.

I'm glad Harrington got picked that high...he would have been a bargain if he went as low as a lot of folks were predicting.

Throw Indy on the losers list. Freeney is a major reach at 11. And can someone explain Duckett going to Atlanta? Didn't they just sign Dunn to go with ANderson?

<< Freeney is a major reach at 11. >>

Good call, I forgot about that one. All the more aggravating for me because I was expecting my Bears to pick him up at 29.

exp,
I've been watching the Eagles for over 25 years. Name one draft where at that time their choices seemed smart?

seau, rodney harrison, donnie edwards, and quentin jammer... i can hear madden say it already "BOOM! hes on his back!"

😀

I think Donte' Stallworth will make the rest of the league regret letting him drop to New Orleans at 13.

Donte' has VERY RARE speed and acceleration... I believe at the combine his lowest 40 was a blazing 4.18
Plus he'll be playing on the carpet in the Superdome making him only that much quicker. 🙂

Well, I may be in the minority here but I really liked your draft a couple of years ago (Simon and Pinkston). But I take your point, I'm not saying the Eagles definitely had a horrible draft or anything that extreme...only that my first impression of Reids DB-drafting spree is "WTF?!?" I do like your later picks though.

This draft could certainly look much better when your CBs retire in a few years.

LOL, right.

Be wary of those players that have excellent showings at the combine, but weren't heard from much during their collegiate careers. Donte Stallworth wasn't even projected to be a first rounder until he put on a show at the combine.
