modus While I have little experience with winmodems, none of it playing games, my usr hardware modem has worked flawlessly for nearly 4 years. While not much of a "gamer" the times I have played my pings were quite low. It did cost me about 100 bucks, but it is on its third motherboard, and I consider it one of my better "upgrades".

I did try a Lucent winmodem. On the two ISP's I use it would not connect at all to one and only at 36K to the other. My USR ISA hardware modem gets consistent 49K an 50K connects respectively.
Yes, I used all of the latest drivers out at that time including the Lucent reference drivers.

I'm sticking with my hardware modem.

I wish I had your problem! try playing games at 24k....I tried three different modems US Robotics external, Zoom pci and now using a US Robotics ISA Winmodem because it was the most stable at a blazing 26k.
