WinME -> XP What?

My friend wants to get WinXP when it comes out, and right now he has WinME. Can you upgrade to WinXP pro? Or just the home version? I know he could do a full reformat/reinstall, but I dont think he wants to do that. So does he need the home version?
thanks,

Both will be as easy/hard to install over WinME, you should really reinstall the entire OS though as you are changing kernal as well as version

I agree with bevancoleman,
I tried to upgrade my brothers 98SE comp to XP because he really just uses it for internet and Half-life..

it worked ok, installed fine, but it had a few quirks. Photoshop always had kernel32.dll complaints, weird one second freezes while playing games, etc

Backed up everything that was important, formated, and then installed and it worked perfect ever since.

To answer your original question, you can upgrade 98/ME to XP Home OR professional. WIndows 2000 will only upgrade to XP Pro.

MS has no qualms if you buy the more expensive OS, even though you're only running WinME.

I would also recommend a full install.
